Sierra vista high school band

Once the school year begins, practices are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Marching Band competes in several competitions with Cavalcade. The Marching season begins in August and concludes at the the end of the football season.

Majorettes and Color Guard are an important feature of Marching Band. They are a visual expression of the music. Twirlers begin the marching season with the marching instrumentalists and Pit musicians with a 2 week intensive band camp in August. As a part of the Marching Band, they perform at all events with the marching instrumentalists. The drum major is the leader of the marching band.

The position requires leadership, dedication, athleticism and skill training. Drum Majors work with both the band director and the membership of the band. They know how to teach and assist other members of the band and they have the ability to inspire the instrumentalists in performance.

The Saucon Valley High School Jazz Ensemble is an extracurricular activity for student jazz musicians in 9th to 12th grade. Students are selected by audition. The ensemble performs at the annual Pops Concert, as well as several competitions throughout the year. Playing in a Pit Orchestra is widely different from playing in a band.

It builds solo skills and sense of dynamics plus a strong grasp of intonation and blending. Top ranking bands from throughout the state of California compete for the high honors. The day-long event begins with a downtown parade at 9 a.
